This was my very first website project (so be kind), started my freshman year of high school before I knew anything about coding. I taught myself HTML, CSS, and (very) basic Javascript to make custom edits, but, more than anything, I enjoyed exploring the endless possibilities websites offer for personal storytelling and creative customization.
Why Weebly? I couldn't tell you – it's definitely far from the best website builder on the market, but it probably had a relatively low learning curve.
Why didn't I just use one of the MANY family tree websites available like Ancestry or FamilySearch? Well, I did. For research. But I was bored and creative with nothing better to do. So. Website.
No, but really: I wanted to create something that I felt truly reflected my family’s unique story and personality. I envisioned each ancestor having their own dedicated page, with personalized layouts, photos, and stories, creating a space that felt intimate and meaningful. It wasn’t just about documenting a family tree; it was about bringing their lives to life and getting to know each ancestor outside of the "database".
